OpenPayd said on August 25, 2026 that it is live on Circle Payments Network, routing business payments over regulated stablecoins while clients keep sending and receiving ordinary fiat. Euro-to-Brazilian real and sterling-to-Mexican peso transfers now settle near-instantly.

The Big Picture

  • OpenPayd clients can now move cross-border fiat over Circle Payments Network without running any blockchain systems of their own.
  • Circle Payments Network carries value in the regulated stablecoins USDC and EURC, then pays out through local banking rails.
  • Euro-to-real and sterling-to-peso corridors went live first, and the companies say both settle near-instantly.
  • Circle Technology Services operates the network, holds no customer funds, and is not a party to any transaction on it.
  • OpenPayd handles more than $280 billion in annual volume and counts eToro, Kraken, OKX and B2C2 as clients.

OpenPayd puts stablecoin settlement behind a fiat interface

A company paying a supplier in Brazil hands OpenPayd euros, the supplier receives real, and a stablecoin carries the value across the middle of that transfer. The payer never builds or manages blockchain infrastructure, which is the specific piece of work the integration removes.

Circle describes CPN as a coordination layer that connects financial institutions and orchestrates cross-border payments using regulated stablecoins such as USDC and EURC. Settlement and payment flows run across existing financial infrastructure, including local payment systems and banking rails, so the final leg still lands in a conventional bank account.

Michael Treacy, director of business development at OpenPayd, said in the announcement:

“

Clients can now access the speed and efficiency of stablecoin infrastructure while continuing to make global payments in the fiat currencies they already use.

The go-live turns an existing Circle agreement into a live rail

OpenPayd and Circle had already announced a partnership on fiat and stablecoin infrastructure before this launch; the CPN integration is the point where that agreement starts carrying live payment traffic.

Founded in 2018 by Dr. Ozan Ozerk, OpenPayd sells embedded accounts, FX, domestic and international payments, Open Banking and stablecoin on and off ramps through a single API. More than 1,200 businesses use it, and the four clients it names publicly are all crypto native firms, which is the customer base most likely to accept stablecoin settlement underneath a fiat product.

Who holds the money, and who holds the risk?

Circle Technology Services, LLC operates CPN and, by its own description, does not hold funds or manage accounts on behalf of customers. It is also not a party to transactions between participating financial institutions, which “use CPN to execute transactions at their own risk.” Access runs under the CPN Rules and a participation agreement signed between Circle Technology Services and each institution. Circle Internet Group, Inc. (NYSE: CRCL) is the affiliate parent of that operating entity.

That structure leaves settlement finality and counterparty exposure with the participating institutions, while the network operator disclaims that role. A card scheme or a correspondent bank sits in the middle of the flow and absorbs some of it.

Businesses already sending money through OpenPayd have a concrete thing to check today: which of their corridors now route over CPN, and what the participation agreement covering those flows says about settlement and liability. Near-instant is a description of observed performance in two corridors, not a service guarantee written into the announcement.

What the launch leaves open?

The announcement establishes that two corridors settle near-instantly. It does not state median settlement times, failure rates, or pricing against OpenPayd’s existing correspondent banking routes. Four gaps stand out:

  • Which corridors follow euro-to-real and sterling-to-peso, and on what timetable?
  • What OpenPayd charges for CPN-routed payments compared with its bank-rail equivalents?
  • How near-instant settlement is measured at the payout leg, which still lands on local payment systems?
  • Which of OpenPayd’s banking partners have signed the CPN Participation Agreement?

CoinLaw’s Takeaway

The commercial idea here is narrow and useful. Businesses want money to arrive faster without also acquiring a treasury policy on digital assets. Putting USDC and EURC underneath a fiat interface means the finance team approves a payment corridor, not a crypto project. That framing is what makes the two live corridors reachable for companies that would have rejected the same speed improvement arriving under a blockchain label.

The harder question is whether hidden rails stay hidden. Firms routing money through crypto payment gateways and stablecoin corridors still carry the counterparty and settlement risk that the network operator explicitly declines. A payment that clears in seconds on a normal day behaves differently under stress in a local payout market, and the announcement offers no data on that. For now the reading is straightforward: OpenPayd has widened what a single API can reach, and the operational questions it raises are the ones a payments team should be asking of any new rail.
