KuCoin Pay launched KuCoin Gift Card on August 6, 2026, a distribution product that lets businesses issue USDT and USDC to recipients in bulk. The company published no fees, no country coverage and no redemption requirements alongside the announcement.

Key Takeaways

  • KuCoin Pay launched KuCoin Gift Card, a product that lets businesses send USDT and USDC to recipients as redeemable digital gift cards.
  • The product supports 2 stablecoins at launch, USDT and USDC, and offers bulk issuance plus API integration for large campaigns.
  • Alicia Kao, Managing Director of KuCoin, said the launch turns crypto distribution into a scalable experience for businesses.
  • The announcement names customer rewards, promotional campaigns, employee incentives and community engagement as the intended business use cases.
  • KuCoin did not publish pricing, supported countries, redemption deadlines or whether recipients need a verified KuCoin account.

What Happened?

KuCoin Pay, the payment arm of the KuCoin exchange, announced KuCoin Gift Card in a statement issued through PR Newswire carrying a Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands dateline. Businesses buy and issue the cards; recipients redeem them and receive the corresponding assets through KuCoin.

The company positions the product for volume rather than one-off gifting. Bulk issuance and an integration API let a business mint large batches and embed the transfer into its own customer acquisition, loyalty or employee recognition flows.

Alicia Kao, Managing Director of KuCoin, tied the launch to the exchange’s wider payments push.

KuCoin Gift Card transforms crypto distribution into a simple, scalable experience for businesses while connecting every transfer to broader utility across the KuCoin ecosystem.

The retention play behind the gift card

The mechanic KuCoin describes does more than move a stablecoin balance. A recipient who redeems a card lands inside KuCoin holding USDT or USDC, and the company states those assets can then be held, transferred or used across supported scenarios on the platform. Redemption is an account-creation event as much as a payout.

That framing makes the product a customer acquisition channel with a payout attached. The company lists four target motions in the announcement:

  • Customer rewards and promotional campaigns
  • Employee incentives and recognition programs
  • Community engagement distributions
  • Partner and stakeholder transfers

What the announcement does not claim matters here. KuCoin published no redemption rate, no pilot volume and no named launch customer, so the acquisition thesis rests on the design rather than on disclosed results.

Where this sits in the exchange payments race?

KuCoin Pay has been building outward from checkout for some time, including its integration with Brazil’s Pix instant payment system. The gift card extends that work in the opposite direction, covering money that leaves a business.

Rival infrastructure is moving on the same axis. CoinLaw has covered Coinbase opening USDC payments to AI agents and Samsung Wallet adding native stablecoin support, both aimed at making dollar-pegged tokens usable outside a trading screen. Business-to-business payout tooling is the segment where exchanges now compete on operational friction, and broader stablecoin market statistics show USDT and USDC absorbing most of that settlement volume already.

The comparison has a limit worth stating. None of these products publish comparable throughput data, so nothing in the announcement establishes where KuCoin Gift Card ranks against them on volume or merchant count.

What KuCoin has not disclosed?

The release leaves several operational questions open, and each one determines whether a business can actually run a campaign on this product:

  • What does issuance cost, and are there per-card or per-batch fees?
  • Which countries can receive and redeem a card, given KuCoin’s MiCA authorization in Europe and its exclusion from the US market?
  • Must a recipient complete KYC verification before redeeming, and what happens to an unredeemed card?
  • Are there minimum order sizes or issuance caps for API customers?
  • Which blockchain networks carry the USDT and USDC on redemption?

Businesses that have already budgeted a stablecoin reward campaign against this launch should confirm recipient eligibility by jurisdiction and the verification steps required at redemption before committing spend. Payouts to employees or contractors also carry tax reporting and payroll treatment that varies by country, and none of that is addressed in the announcement.

CoinLaw’s Takeaway

The product solves a real operational problem. Sending stablecoins to a few thousand customers today means collecting wallet addresses, validating chains and absorbing failed transfers, and a redeemable code removes that burden from the sender by shifting the wallet step onto the recipient. The cost of that shift is that value only completes inside KuCoin, which is precisely why the exchange built it.

Read against KuCoin’s own history, the launch continues a pattern. The exchange has spent the past cycle assembling payment surfaces around its trading business, and KuCoin exchange show a user base large enough to make redemption-driven onboarding worth the engineering. The evidence available today shows intent and product design. It does not yet show adoption, and that gap stays open until KuCoin or a launch partner publishes issuance figures.
