Circle Internet Group (NYSE: CRCL) signed a definitive agreement on September 8, 2026 to buy Tazapay, a Singapore-based B2B payments platform where stablecoins already move about 60% of transaction volume. The deal is expected to close in 2027.

The Big Picture

  • Circle agreed to acquire Tazapay, a Singapore cross-border payments company serving payment service providers and financial institutions.
  • Tazapay handles more than $25 billion in annualized payment volume across local payout rails in over 100 markets.
  • Stablecoins already sit inside roughly 60% of Tazapay’s transaction volume, a share Circle disclosed in the announcement.
  • The Monetary Authority of Singapore must approve the transaction before it can close, alongside customary conditions.
  • Tazapay customers keep their existing service, APIs, pricing and support, Circle said, with no disruption planned.

Circle buys local rails into 100 payout markets

Circle said the agreement brings 60+ banking and fintech partners and local payout coverage in more than 100 markets into its ecosystem. Tazapay has worked as a design partner for Circle Payments Network since 2025, so the two firms have already built against each other’s systems.

The customer base is the asset. Tazapay sells to payment service providers and financial institutions, so every client on its book carries its own downstream volume. Circle is buying wholesale distribution for USDC, one layer above the merchants who eventually touch the money.

Circle has signed an agreement to acquire @tazapay, a cross-border payments company supporting businesses across 100+ markets.

Tazapay brings a payments-native team, 60+ banking and fintech partners, and meaningful stablecoin payment volume, with more than 60% of its volume…

— Circle (@circle) September 8, 2026

The 60% stablecoin share is the number that matters

The $25 billion annualized volume figure will draw the attention. The share already touching stablecoins is the more useful number. Roughly 60% of Tazapay transactions include them today, which means most of the conversion work inside these flows has already happened, and Circle inherits demand it would otherwise have to build.

The rest of that volume still runs on conventional banking rails, and Circle has not said what happens to it after close.

Implications for cross-border settlement

Irfan Ganchi, Circle’s senior vice president of payments, said the acquisition will increase the company’s capability to “originate and terminate payments globally, near-instant and 24/7, which is a meaningful step toward making USDC the default payment rail for cross-border commerce.“

Controlling both ends of a payment strips out the correspondent banking hops that set settlement times in emerging markets. Card networks have chased the same effect by attaching stablecoin payouts to rails they already own, as Visa did in its stablecoin payouts deal with Zero Hash.

Four questions stay open. What is Circle paying? What conditions will MAS attach? Does Tazapay keep its brand? How is the non-stablecoin portion of its volume treated? The announcement answers none of them.

Tazapay customers have nothing to change today. Circle said service, APIs, pricing and support continue as they are. Businesses routing payouts through the platform can treat MAS clearance and the 2027 close as the checkpoints where settlement terms and contracts could be revisited.

The Bottom Line

This acquisition reads as a distribution purchase rather than a technology one. Circle already holds the stablecoin, the network and the regulatory standing. What it lacked was licensed local payout capacity in the emerging markets where cross-border demand is growing fastest, and Tazapay supplies that across more than 100 markets with the bank relationships that make payouts land.

The cost of that capacity stays undisclosed, and a 2027 close gives competitors a long runway. Rahul Shinghal, Tazapay’s co-founder and chief executive, framed the sale around Circle’s dollar infrastructure and regulatory standing, the harder half of that pair to replicate. Stablecoin settlement volume concentrates where a licensed issuer meets working local rails, and this transaction puts both under one owner across Asia-Pacific, subject to the Singapore regulator signing off.
