Robinhood has joined forces with Sony and other major players to back Talos, a crypto trading platform, in a fresh funding round that values the company at $1.5 billion.

Key Takeaways

  • Talos raised a $45 million Series B extension, bringing its total Series B funding to $150 million at a $1.5 billion valuation.
  • Robinhood, Sony Innovation Fund, IMC, QCP, and Karatage joined as new strategic investors, alongside existing backers like a16z crypto, Fidelity, and BNY.
  • The funding comes amid Robinhood’s growing push into blockchain-based trading infrastructure, including tokenized assets and onchain settlement.
  • Talos plans to use the capital to expand its product offerings across trading, risk, treasury, and support for tokenized traditional assets.

What Happened?

Talos, a leading institutional crypto trading technology firm, announced the close of a $45 million extension to its Series B funding round. This move brings its total Series B raise to $150 million and puts the company’s post-money valuation at around $1.5 billion. Robinhood and Sony are among the new strategic investors participating in this extension, signaling increasing confidence in digital asset infrastructure.

Robinhood’s Strategic Crypto Expansion

Robinhood’s participation in this round is part of its broader strategy to deepen its crypto and blockchain infrastructure footprint. The company is actively developing a blockchain network based on Arbitrum, rolling out tokenized stock trading in Europe, and introducing staking and perpetual futures products. These initiatives highlight its shift toward crypto-native finance.

Johann Kerbrat, Robinhood’s Senior Vice President and GM of Crypto, said that Talos’s flexibility and advanced infrastructure help deliver deeper liquidity and more sophisticated features to Robinhood Crypto customers. CEO Vlad Tenev has previously emphasized the importance of moving traditional assets onto blockchain rails to reduce risk and enable 24/7 markets.

Talos: A Powerhouse in Institutional Crypto Tech

Founded in New York, Talos offers a comprehensive platform used by banks, brokers, and asset managers to manage digital asset trading, portfolio construction, risk, and settlement. Its platform aggregates liquidity from exchanges, OTC desks, and prime brokers into a single API or interface.

Highlights of Talos’s reach and growth:

  • Clients span over 35 countries, with traditional finance firms making up 60 to 70 percent of new customers in the past year.
  • Asset managers using Talos represent about $21 trillion in assets under management.
  • The company claims it has doubled revenue and client base each of the past two years.

Sony Ventures CEO Kazuhito Hadano noted that Talos has matured from a trade execution platform to a full-stack institutional solution, integrating data and analytics.

Acquisitions and Blockchain-Powered Investment

Talos has aggressively expanded through acquisitions, including Coin Metrics for over $100 million, and firms like Cloudwall, Skolem, and D3X Systems to strengthen its analytics and risk management capabilities.

Another innovation noted in the funding round was that a portion of the investment was settled using stablecoins, showcasing real-world use of blockchain rails for institutional transactions.

According to Talos CEO Anton Katz, the extension was driven by growing interest from strategic partners and clients who want to be closely aligned with the firm as traditional assets migrate to digital formats.

CoinLaw’s Takeaway

In my experience covering crypto infrastructure, this kind of partnership between a consumer-facing trading app like Robinhood and a deep institutional platform like Talos signals serious maturing of the digital asset space. It’s not just about trading coins anymore. This is about building a parallel financial system that offers more flexibility, better transparency, and higher efficiency.

I found it especially interesting that part of the deal was settled in stablecoins. That small detail shows how deeply integrated blockchain is becoming in the financial backend. Talos is no longer just a crypto tool. It is becoming critical infrastructure for how finance might work in the next decade.
