The statement is Linea’s first public confirmation that Yield Boost sits among the operations hit by the validator exits. Linea has not reported any loss of principal. It also has not disclosed what share of its Yield Boost validators MetaMask Staking operates, or when replacements will be live.

Yield Boost stakes part of the ETH bridged to Linea. That staking runs on Ethereum mainnet through Lido V3, the newest version of Lido’s liquid staking protocol. Rewards are harvested and sent back to incentivize liquidity providers (LPs) and decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols on Linea.
Users who bridge ETH still receive ETH on Linea. The rewards fund ecosystem incentives and never accrue to individual wallets, so the disruption hits incentive budgets, not balances. Linea said it would roll out Yield Boost in five stages, beginning with a 96 ETH test. The design builds on a 2025 plan, first called Native Yield, to auto-stake bridged ETH through Lido.
Lido sets the exit clock
Lido published a security disclosure on its governance forum on September 30. It said MetaMask Staking, formerly Consensys Staking, had begun exiting its Ethereum validators in the Lido protocol after an investigation into an infrastructure compromise.
The final affected validators are expected to be exited, though not fully withdrawn, by the end of October 7. Lido warned of foregone rewards and possible downtime penalties along the way. It said holders of stETH, its liquid staking token, need to take no action.
Exited ETH will return to the protocol gradually as validators finish the exit, withdrawal and re-entry cycle. Lido also noted that MetaMask does not manage withdrawal keys. Those credentials control where staked ETH goes when it leaves a validator.
MetaMask disclosed the incident late the same day, calling it a security incident affecting part of its infrastructure. A day later, the company said its investigation so far showed no sign that wallets or customer funds were affected. It has not said which systems were compromised or how.
A security researcher known as Kaden on X estimated that roughly 17,000 validators holding about 523,000 ETH are being exited. The same on-chain analysis put block tips redirected during a short window at around 0.36 ETH. MetaMask and Lido have not confirmed either figure.
A sibling’s incident reaches Linea’s budget
Consensys announced last month that it will split in two. Consensys Software Inc. is rebranding as MetaMask and will focus on its consumer platform. Linea moves with the protocols and institutional infrastructure businesses into a new company that keeps the Consensys name. The separation is expected by the end of 2026.
That timing matters here. The staking operator and the network whose incentives took the hit are headed for different corporate homes. Today they still share exposure. Yield Boost depends on external node operators, so a problem at one operator can cut incentive funding while the vault itself stays untouched.
