Nvidia has signed a multi year partnership with SK Hynix to secure advanced AI memory chips, strengthening its supply chain as demand for AI infrastructure continues to accelerate worldwide.

Key Takeaways

  • Nvidia and SK Hynix signed a multi year technology partnership focused on advanced AI memory chips.
  • The deal supports the development of HBM4 memory for Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin AI systems.
  • Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said SK Hynix remains the company’s largest memory partner.
  • The agreement comes as Nvidia expands AI collaborations across South Korea in data centers, robotics, and manufacturing.

What Happened?

Nvidia and South Korean memory chip giant SK Hynix have entered into a multi year agreement covering the design and production of next generation memory technologies for artificial intelligence applications. The partnership is expected to help Nvidia secure a steady supply of advanced memory products as it scales AI infrastructure across data centers, supercomputers, robotics, and other high performance computing systems.

The announcement was made during Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to South Korea, where he met executives from several leading technology companies and unveiled a series of new AI related partnerships.

Nvidia Deepens Its Relationship With SK Hynix

The agreement further strengthens an already close relationship between Nvidia and SK Hynix. Huang described SK Hynix as Nvidia’s “largest memory partner” and said the company already purchases memory products worth billions of dollars from the chipmaker each year.

According to Huang, the new partnership extends beyond memory supply and includes collaboration on future technologies that will support Nvidia’s growing AI ambitions. He noted that Nvidia’s demand for memory is expected to rise significantly as the company expands into new areas such as physical AI, robotics, AI supercomputers, and advanced computing platforms.

The partnership is also expected to continue for more than two years, with options to extend cooperation further in the future.

HBM4 Becomes a Key Focus

One of the most important aspects of the deal is the development of HBM4, the next generation of high bandwidth memory technology.

HBM chips play a critical role in AI systems because they allow processors to access large amounts of data at extremely high speeds. As AI models become larger and more complex, demand for these advanced memory solutions has surged.

SK Hynix is preparing to significantly expand production of HBM4, which will be used in Nvidia’s upcoming Vera Rubin platform. Huang recently confirmed that Nvidia has approved SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics, and Micron Technology as suppliers for HBM4 products.

The Vera Rubin systems are expected to begin deliveries during the third quarter and are designed around powerful combinations of Rubin graphics processors, Vera central processors, and terabytes of advanced memory in each server system.

Nvidia Expands Its South Korea AI Ecosystem

The SK Hynix agreement was part of a broader series of partnerships announced by Nvidia in South Korea.

The company revealed collaborations with SK Telecom, Naver, Doosan Group, LG Group, and Hyundai Motor Group as it works to accelerate AI adoption across multiple industries.

SK Telecom plans to build a gigawatt scale AI cloud platform using Nvidia technology, with its first major AI data center expected to become operational in 2027. Naver and Doosan will also use Nvidia technologies to support AI infrastructure development.

Meanwhile, Nvidia is working with LG Group on electronics, mechanical systems, data center architecture, and AI for humanoid robots. The company is also deepening its partnership with Hyundai Motor Group in areas including autonomous mobility, industrial robotics, and AI-powered manufacturing.

Growing Demand Changes the Memory Market

Industry analysts believe the agreement highlights a major shift in the semiconductor industry. Rather than being viewed as a standard commodity product, advanced AI memory is increasingly becoming a customized technology tailored to specific customer requirements.

As businesses worldwide invest heavily in generative AI, machine learning, and cloud computing, suppliers capable of delivering specialized memory solutions are expected to gain a competitive advantage.

The partnership positions SK Hynix to strengthen its standing against rivals Samsung Electronics and Micron Technology in the race to supply the critical components powering the next generation of AI systems.

CoinLaw’s Takeaway

In my experience, one of the biggest challenges facing the AI industry is not software innovation but securing enough advanced hardware to support rapid growth. I found this partnership particularly important because it shows Nvidia is moving aggressively to lock in future memory supplies before demand becomes even more intense.

This deal is not simply about buying chips. It reflects how AI leaders are building long term strategic relationships across the entire supply chain. As AI infrastructure expands globally, partnerships like this could become just as important as breakthroughs in AI models themselves.
