Fold has rolled out a new Visa credit card, powered by Stripe, that pays Bitcoin rewards on every purchase, marking a major move toward everyday crypto adoption.

Key Takeaways

  • Fold’s new credit card offers up to 3.5% back in Bitcoin rewards on all purchases, including 2% instantly and up to 1.5% more for paying off balances via Fold Checking.
  • Stripe and Visa power the card, ensuring global access and seamless reward delivery without the need for crypto exchanges or staking.
  • Users can earn up to 10% back with major brands like Amazon, Target, and Starbucks through Fold’s merchant partnerships.
  • Fold has already processed over $3.1 billion in transactions and distributed $83 million in Bitcoin rewards through its broader financial ecosystem.

What Happened?

Fold Holdings Inc. has launched a new Bitcoin rewards credit card in partnership with Visa and Stripe. The credit card lets users earn Bitcoin on every transaction and eliminates the need for staking tokens or using crypto exchanges. The card aims to make Bitcoin more accessible by integrating rewards directly into everyday spending.

Fold’s Bitcoin Credit Card Simplifies Crypto Rewards

The Fold Bitcoin Rewards Credit Card is issued on the Visa network and built using Stripe Issuing, giving it global reach and robust technical infrastructure. The card offers:

  • 2% Bitcoin back instantly on every purchase
  • An additional 1.5% back when the balance is paid off using a Fold Checking account with qualifying activity
  • Up to 10% Bitcoin back through brand-specific offers from retailers like Amazon, Starbucks, Home Depot, and Target

There are no rotating categories, token staking, or exchange requirements. According to Fold CEO Will Reeves, the card is designed for both beginners and seasoned crypto users. “Just real bitcoin, earned automatically with every purchase,” Reeves said.

Backed by Financial Giants

Stripe and Visa are playing pivotal roles in supporting this Bitcoin rewards card. Stripe’s Head of Money Management, Sateesh Kumar Srinivasa, stated the company is proud to power this groundbreaking product using Stripe Issuing. Cuy Sheffield, Visa’s Head of Crypto, said the card reflects Visa’s ongoing commitment to innovation in digital finance.

Visa has reportedly reached around $1 billion in annualized stablecoin settlement volume, highlighting its growing role in crypto payments. Stripe has also expanded its crypto footprint by incubating Tempo, a blockchain project, and integrating USDC payments with Shopify through Coinbase.

Fold’s Expanding Ecosystem and Impact

This launch is part of Fold’s larger financial services suite, which includes debit cards, banking, custody, and crypto exchange services. Since its inception, Fold has handled more than $3.1 billion in transaction volume and delivered $83 million in Bitcoin rewards.

Fold first introduced its Bitcoin rewards credit card concept in early 2024. This latest update confirms a full-scale rollout with refined features, making it easier than ever for users to accumulate Bitcoin through ordinary spending.

The company already made waves in 2020 by launching a Bitcoin rewards debit card with Visa, which later became available to all U.S. residents. The newly launched credit card represents a natural next step in Fold’s mission to integrate Bitcoin into daily financial life.

CoinLaw’s Takeaway

I love what Fold is doing here. In my experience, most crypto rewards cards come with strings attached. You either need to lock up tokens, manage rotating categories, or navigate awkward exchange platforms. This one changes the game. It strips away the fluff and delivers real Bitcoin, right into your account, every time you swipe.

If you’re like me and want a practical way to stack points without overthinking it, this might be the most consumer-friendly solution I’ve seen so far. Fold isn’t just offering a card; they’re onboarding people into Bitcoin without the learning curve. That’s a big deal.

Definition of Staking. Link to full glossary entry follows the description.Staking

Staking is the process of locking cryptocurrency in a proof-of-stake network to help validate transactions and earn rewards, replacing energy-intensive mining.
