For the first time in history, The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Response Force has deployed as a self-protective measure to Russia’s continuing incursion into Ukraine. The NATO Supreme Allied Commander General Tod Wolters deployed the multinational force that consists of air, sea, land, and special operations forces from allies that can deploy rapidly in support of the NATO alliance.

The star of the response troops is not a sign that there is a guarantee that any NATO troops or the United States would go into Ukraine, which is not an associate. They are not engaged in fighting with Ukraine. The United States president Joe Biden states that the US troops are going to the eastern part of Europe to help strengthen NATO countries concerned over Russia’s aggressive tactics.

“This is a watershed moment in history because first time The North Atlantic Treaty Organization Alliance utilizes the high-preparation force for defense role. They are flexible and combat credible force that is able to be utilized in many ways, and we are utilizing the full potential of their agility.” The NATO Commander General Wolters said in a statement, “These measures to deter terrorism are wise and increase our responsiveness, speed, and ability to protect and safeguard the one billion citizens we pledged to defend.”

The response force is not yet triggered, but the NOTA response force is presently on standby. It is unclear how many groups of soldiers this response team will have.

The decision to deploy the NATO response force is announced after a conference call with the NATO officials on Friday morning. In a statement on the call, US president Joe Biden stated that NATO stayed united in standing up against Putin’s international security and peace threats. His statement continued, “Our nearby allies Finland, European Union, and Sweden, have joined us today.” Also, he said, the president of Russia- Vladimir Putin, has fallen in his endeavor to divide the West. NATO remains more united and determined than it’s ever been. NATO will continue to keep its Open Door policy to European states that have the same values as us and may one day be interested in joining our Alliance.

Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary-General of NATO, stated that the Alliance still wanted to do more to pressure the Kremlin to stop the military aggression in the Ukraine country. He says, We are required to be ready to go further even if we must pay for it since we are in it for the long-term”. Further he said, we must be serious about this, and that’s the reason we are now sending NATO response force for the first time in a collective defense context”.

The total NATO Response Force is 40,000 troops; however, Stoltenberg did not provide several many of them would be activated, declaring to journalists “we are deployment elements” of the force.

In a message released on Friday, Ukraine president Zelensky thanks NATO for its assistance but called on Alliance to go further in the future. He expressed regret that Ukraine left to fend for itself.

“We are alone in protecting our nation. Who is willing to defend us together with us? Sincerely, I don’t know anyone,” Zelensky said. The White House states that Joe Biden talked on the phone this Friday with Ukraine president Zelensky, who shared a video showing he is still in Kyiv. Joe Biden’s statement states that US President “conveyed the ongoing humanitarian, economic, and security assistance the United States offers.”

On Friday, John Kirby, secretary of the Pentagon Press, told reporters that the United States would provide additional support for security to Ukraine. He noted, “still under discussion.”
