CES may look a bit different this year however that doesn’t stop Lenovo to continue doing the thing it excels at and that is to use the showcase various new products. Apart from the typical laptops, Lenovo will be showcasing a brand-new smart clock called the Smart Clock Essential with Alexa. Apart from a simple cloth design, which is clearly reminiscent of the previous season’s Smart Clock 2, the new Essential enhances the previous model by incorporating a docking pin in the bottom, and of course it supports Amazon Alexa. The first Essential clock could only be used using Google Assistant, and while I was hoping that this new version could support both it’s not. The Essential with Alexa is the first Essential comes with Alexa is a true Alexa-only clock The original is accessible as an Google Smart Clock.

In terms of an item that is designed to be placed on the table by your bed it’s hard to find much to say about the Essential. It comes in a soft “Clay red” or a light “Misty Blue” with the entire front surface is devoted to the 4 inch LED display. The interface is white text with a dark black background. In along with the date, it displays the day’s date and live decibel levels (an intriguing feature). If you were expecting an interface for streaming videos like The Amazon Echo Show 5, it’s not. There’s also a microphone switch, but no camera built-in, which is a design feature which a lot of people are sure to appreciate.

The top of the screen has are only four buttons including volume buttons, an option to activate your assistant as well as a button to set an alarm. There’s an additional USB port to charge.

While they are not required, these docking accessories are an essential part of the tale. Alongside a standard pad that has room for the clock as well as another device that charges wirelessly as a phone The company has also launched”the Ambient Light Dock, which can also be used as an evening light. Available in two playful designs such as one of a sea lion and the other of a Squid, it comes with eight lighting options and a range of colors. Additionally, the clock’s screen displays an adorable anthropomorphic face whenever you hit”assistant. What’s the reason for you should choose a sea lion or the squid in particular? We’d like to know why. (And an excellent option if this low-tech, cheap product is designed to be used to fill kids’ rooms in the first place.)

Its Lenovo Smart Clock Essential will be available this month at $60 and the docks are also available at a price of $30 each. Even though Lenovo has decided to cancel its in-person booth at CES however, we were able to look at the company’s latest products during a distant announcement held in New York this month. Check out our hands-on-video (coming shortly) to see a glimpse.
