# SoFi Partners With Payward to Link Banking, Crypto

SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ: SOFI), led by CEO Anthony Noto, and Payward, Kraken’s parent led by Co-CEO David Ripley, announced today a partnership tying SoFi’s banking rails to Kraken’s crypto markets on September 3, 2026.

## The Big Picture

- SoFi and Payward will connect SEN’s 24/7 settlement network to Kraken’s institutional liquidity, letting clients clear USD anytime.
- Payward will list SoFiUSD, SoFi’s bank-issued stablecoin, on Kraken, reaching Kraken’s retail, professional, and institutional users.
- SoFi will use Kraken Prime as an additional source of digital asset liquidity, which SoFi says means better pricing for its 15.8 million members on trades they already make.
- The deal builds on SoFi’s Big Business Banking unit, launched in April, which paired enterprise banking with digital-asset services.
- SoFiUSD stays redeemable one-to-one for U.S. dollars, a design SoFi says pairs blockchain speed with bank-level oversight.

## SoFi and Payward Link Settlement Rails to Kraken

Kraken sits, according to SoFi, among the platforms tracked in [Decentralized finance markets](https://coinlaw.io/decentralized-finance-market-statistics/) data, putting SoFiUSD on the same shelf as Circle and Tether stablecoins. **September 3, 2026** marks the day Payward joined the **SoFi Exchange Network (SEN)**, SoFi’s real-time settlement system, giving Kraken’s institutional clients a way to move U.S. dollars 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Payward will also list [SoFiUSD](https://coinlaw.io/sofi-launches-sofiusd-stablecoin-for-15m-users/), SoFi’s bank-issued stablecoin, on Kraken’s multi-asset trading platform, and SoFi will tap Kraken Prime, Payward’s prime brokerage arm, as an additional source of digital asset liquidity behind its in-app crypto trading.

“**The financial system should not shut down when markets stay open,**” said Anthony Noto, CEO of SoFi. The tie-up also connects Kraken’s institutional clients to SEN’s real-time settlement rails to move USD and manage liquidity at any hour. The structure echoes an older experiment: Silvergate Bank’s SEN and Signature Bank’s Signet ran comparable always-on dollar rails for crypto clients until both banks collapsed in **March 2023**, a failure that stripped exchanges of settlement infrastructure overnight.

 ## SoFiUSD’s Kraken Listing Signals a Bank-Stablecoin Push

With **134 million** global accounts already on its technology platform, SoFi is putting SoFiUSD in front of a distribution base most stablecoin issuers don’t start with, listing it on Kraken rather than waiting for wallets to adopt a new token and straight onto a venue where incumbent dollar tokens trade.

**Kraken Prime’s role** matters for pricing, not headlines. SoFi members already buy and sell crypto in the app, and routing flow through a prime brokerage is meant to narrow the spread members pay, a back-end change few users will notice directly. Card networks show what tighter execution is worth at scale: payments rail data shows [Visa](https://coinlaw.io/visa-statistics/) alone processes tens of billions of transactions a year, and even small spread compression across that kind of volume moves real money for both the network and its users.

## CoinLaw’s Takeaway

Kraken Prime’s liquidity feed narrows the spread SoFi’s own retail users pay on trades they already make, while SEN gives Kraken’s institutional desk a dollar rail that doesn’t close at 5 p.m. Neither company is asking users to do anything new. The value sits underneath the app, in settlement timing and execution quality.
