# Ripple Strikes RLUSD Deal With Robinhood for Treasury and Settlement

Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) will settle institutional trades in Ripple’s RLUSD and run its treasury on Ripple software, the companies said on 27th October, 2026. RLUSD went live the same day on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood.

## At a Glance

- Robinhood will integrate Ripple Treasury to automate cash management, forecasting and payments across its own global operations.
- RLUSD will handle institutional trade settlement at Bitstamp by Robinhood, the global exchange Robinhood now owns.
- Ripple Prime extends lending and margin financing to Bitstamp by Robinhood across roughly 20 digital assets.
- Circle, the USDC issuer, is chasing a similar bundled model through its own payments network for cross-border transfers.

## Robinhood puts its own cash on Ripple rails

The treasury piece is the part of the deal that touches Robinhood’s own money. Under the [joint announcement](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20261027803009/en/Ripple-and-Robinhood-Partner-to-Power-the-Next-Generation-of-Finance), Ripple Treasury will run liquidity management, cash flow forecasting, risk management and intercompany netting for the broker. That puts a firm serving 28.6 million funded customers on a crypto-native vendor’s back-office software.

Settlement runs on a separate track. Robinhood will move RLUSD over the **XRP Ledger (XRPL)** to settle trades for Bitstamp’s institutional clients. Retail exposure starts on Robinhood Chain, the company’s in-house blockchain for [tokenized stocks](https://coinlaw.io/robinhood-tokenized-stock-launch/) and other assets. Ripple calls RLUSD an enterprise-grade stablecoin. The companies say it will be one of the main stablecoins across Robinhood’s digital asset products, for retail and institutional users.

Ripple Prime, Ripple’s prime brokerage unit, builds on a relationship that predates this week. It already provides Bitstamp by Robinhood with lending and margin financing on roughly 20 digital assets. Its own clients can trade spot on Bitstamp, and Ripple Prime will add support for perpetual futures trading there later this year.

“**Utility is what moves stablecoins forward,**” said **Johann Kerbrat**, SVP and general manager of Robinhood Crypto and International. He described RLUSD for settlement, Ripple Treasury for operations and Ripple Prime for financing as the makings of a connected global financial system.

Ripple President **Monica Long** pitched the deal on breadth. She said institutions increasingly want integrated tools that serve customer-facing products and a firm’s core financial operations at once.

The deal also feeds Robinhood’s push to become a global financial super-app, with one set of infrastructure serving both retail and institutional clients. Treasury automation fits that plan, since a business that trades around the clock needs cash that can move outside bank hours too.

## Circle is selling the same bundle

Traders first used stablecoins as plumbing, shifting funds between exchanges and parking cash between positions without converting to dollars. The newer pitch is settlement that runs around the clock, outside bank hours. Long told CNBC that stablecoins now sit inside corporate payments and capital markets. In her telling, the **Robinhood deal lets institutions operate 24/7/365** and use their capital more efficiently.

Ripple, which says it holds more than 85 licenses, markets itself as one entry point for payments, custody, prime brokerage and treasury management. **Circle Internet Group (NYSE: CRCL)** runs the [Circle Payments Network](https://coinlaw.io/openpayd-circle-payments-network-instant-fiat-payouts/) on similar logic, connecting banks and payment providers for cross-border transfers in USDC. Ripple Payments, an eight-year-old cross-border service, already routes USDC, XRP and [RLUSD](https://coinlaw.io/rlusd-statistics/).

Scale still favors the incumbents. RLUSD has passed **$2.5 billion** in market capitalization since its December 2024 launch, Ripple said. Tether’s USDT and Circle’s USDC still dominate a [stablecoin market](https://coinlaw.io/stablecoin-market-share-by-chain-statistics/) worth more than **$300 billion**.

## Why It Matters?

Robinhood hands RLUSD two kinds of demand at a single counterparty: a retail listing and institutional settlement. Settlement could matter more for supply over time, because institutions need standing RLUSD balances to settle in it. The announcement doesn’t prove that yet.

The release also leaves gaps. **How much RLUSD will Bitstamp settle each month? What does Robinhood pay for Ripple Treasury?** Neither company disclosed financial terms or volume targets.

For existing users, access is split. Bitstamp and Robinhood Chain customers can hold RLUSD now, while Robinhood app customers wait for a listing the companies expect later this year. The nearer checkpoint comes within hours: Robinhood reports third-quarter results after the market closes Tuesday.
