Joseph Muscat, the prime minister of Malta said in a speech at the CEPS Ideas Lab in Brussels that the mechanisms used to regulate cryptocurrencies should be innovated by the European regulators.

The prime minister added that the innovation is needed to harness the potential of the new technology as well as to protect the customers.

“My point is that rather than resist, European regulators should innovate and create mechanisms in which to regulate cryptocurrencies, in order to harness their potential and better protect consumers, while making Europe the natural home of innovators.” said the PM.
