# Crypto ETF Statistics 2026: Net Assets, Fees and Flows by Issuer

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF closed June 2026 with **$43.386 billion** in net assets. Six months earlier, the same fund held **$67.401 billion**. Every figure in the crypto ETF statistics below comes from Form 10-Q filings, semi-annual shareholder reports, and issuer fund fact sheets. None of it comes from vendor estimates, so each figure carries the filing period its issuer stated.

The filings show a category that has stopped being uniform. Annual costs run from **0.21%** on one spot Bitcoin fund to **2.91%** on a staking-enabled Ether trust. Flow direction differs by issuer inside the same underlying asset, across five funds spanning Bitcoin, Ether and Solana.

## Key Takeaways

- Fund filings put the annual cost of US spot crypto exposure anywhere between **0.21%** and **2.91%**, a spread of **13.9 times** inside a single asset class.
- Redemptions outran creations by **8.3 to one** at Grayscale’s legacy Bitcoin vehicle over the six months to June 30, 2026.
- [BlackRock](https://coinlaw.io/blackrock-statistics/) collected **$72,112,039** in sponsor fees over the same half-year, equal to **0.12%** of the Trust’s average weighted assets of $58,168,395,213.
- The REX-Osprey SOL and Staking ETF, a US Solana staking fund, reports two expense ratios rather than one, at **0.75%** excluding tax expense and **1.47%** including it, a gap of **0.72** percentage points.
- Grayscale’s Ether trust shed **15,050,000** shares outstanding in the first half of 2026, leaving **95,828,500** in issue.
- The IBIT options position and exercise limit is approved to move from **250,000 contracts** to **1,000,000 contracts** on the same side of the market, scaling faster than fund assets did.

The scale gap is the most durable feature of this category. Concentration, not breadth, is what a reader is actually looking at when they ask how big crypto ETFs have become.

### How much money is in crypto ETFs?

No single primary filing states a market total. The honest answer is a sum of disclosed fund-level figures rather than an industry aggregate. Across the five funds documented here, reported net assets at June 30, 2026 ranged from $43.386 billion at the largest down to $142,879,796 at the smallest.

## About This Data

The crypto ETF statistics on this page are compiled from 19 Tier 1 primary sources. Those are Form 10-Q filings, an N-CSRS semi-annual shareholder report, two SEC Exchange Act releases, issuer fund fact sheets, and issuer fund pages. The compilation window runs from July 2025 to August 2026. A source is qualified only if it was a regulator filing or the issuer’s own disclosure, with vendor and aggregator estimates excluded. Figures are reviewed on a rolling basis and updated when issuers publish new filings.

## Net Flows Across Spot Crypto ETPs

- IBIT took in a net **$1.112 billion** from capital share transactions in the first quarter of 2026, then lost a net **$2.951 billion** in the second, per its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026.
- Measured in shares rather than dollars, IBIT issued **277,840,000 shares** and redeemed **340,480,000** over the half-year.
- That left the fund with a net decrease of **62,640,000 shares** issued and outstanding.
- Grayscale’s Bitcoin trust ran negative in both comparable periods, at a net **$1.922 billion** out in the first half of 2026 and **$1.758 billion** out a year earlier.
- ETHE shed a net **$301.639 million** in the first half of 2026 after **$666.575 million** in the comparable 2025 period.
- Shares redeemed reached **$2.186 billion** against shares issued of **$263.348 million**, so redemptions rather than weak creation demand drove the Grayscale numbers.
- ETHE issued **12,330,000 shares** and redeemed **27,380,000** over the half-year.
- ETHE also distributed **$21.150 million** of shares in sponsor staking rewards, a line item absent from the 2025 comparative.

> **By the numbers:** Across the six months to June 30, 2026, Grayscale’s Bitcoin trust recorded shares redeemed of $2.186 billion against shares issued of $263.348 million, while its Ether trust shed a net $301.639 million. Both sets of figures come from Statements of Changes in Net Assets filed with the SEC.

Direction alone understates how uneven the half-year was. The quarterly split inside a single BlackRock fund swung from creation-positive to redemption-heavy with no change to the product itself, a pattern that a rolling [spot ETF flow tracker](https://coinlaw.io/glossary/crypto-etf/) captures better than any half-year total.

## Crypto ETF Expense Ratios and Fee Tiers

- ARK 21Shares charges a management fee of **0.21%** plus 0.00% in both distribution and other expenses, the lowest published cost here.
- The two iShares products sit one tier above at a sponsor fee of **0.25%** for Bitcoin and 0.25% for Ether.
- Grayscale’s Bitcoin trust reported an expense ratio of **1.50%** on an annualised basis for both the three- and six-month periods to June 30, 2026.
- ETHE combines a sponsor fee of **2.50%** with a sponsor staking fee worth a further **0.41 percentage points**, the most expensive line in the set.
- The Solana staking fund reports **0.75%** before tax expense, which places it between the plain Bitcoin funds and the legacy trusts.
- Fee waivers are discretionary rather than contractual, and BlackRock’s has lapsed: For the six months ended **June 30, 2026**, there were no fees waived.
- That waiver had cut the effective sponsor fee to **0.12%** of the net asset value of the Trust for the first **$5.0 billion** of the Trust’s assets for a twelve-month period from January 11, 2024.

### What is the cheapest crypto ETF?

Among the funds documented here, ARK 21Shares reports the lowest published cost at 0.21% in total fees, with the two iShares products next at 0.25%. Published expense ratios are one input among several, and they exclude trading spreads and any tax expense a fund recognises at the fund level.

## Issuer Share and Product Concentration

- IBIT fell from **$67.401 billion** to **$43.386 billion** across the half-year, the largest absolute decline in the group.
- Its financial statement NAV fell **32.51%** while bitcoin itself fell 32.43%, so price rather than flow drove most of the move.
- Grayscale’s Bitcoin trust contracted on both axes, from **$14.497 billion** to **$8.137 billion**.
- Its share count fell from **211,920,100** to **178,580,100** over the same period.
- Grayscale’s Ether trust moved from **$2.703 billion** to **$1.223 billion**.
- The quarterly path ran through **$53.385 billion** at March 31, 2026, before the second-quarter decline.
- IBIT’s average weighted assets across the period were **$58,168,395,213**, the base BlackRock used to express its fee take.
- Nasdaq ISE cited an AUM of **$27,761,941,292** for the iShares emerging markets fund and **$76,788,457,200** for its EAFE fund as benchmarks.

Concentration of this kind changes how a category behaves under stress, because one fund’s creation and redemption mechanics set the tone for the whole complex. The same single-venue dominance appears in [crypto exchange market share data](https://coinlaw.io/crypto-exchange-market-share-statistics/), where a handful of venues carry most of the volume.

## Grayscale’s Fee Premium and Legacy Redemptions

- Grayscale’s Bitcoin trust charged **1.50%** against a sponsor fee alone of 2.50% at its Ether sibling.
- The Bitcoin trust collected a sponsor fee of **$84.677 million** over the six months to June 30, 2026.
- That is more fee revenue than BlackRock’s much larger Bitcoin fund collected in the same period, at **$72,112,039**.
- Redemptions dominated, at **$2.186 billion** of shares redeemed against **$263.348 million** issued.
- In share terms, the trust redeemed **37,850,000 shares** and issued **4,510,000**.
- Selling bitcoin to meet those redemptions crystallised a net realised gain of **$1.656 billion** over the six months.
- Unrealised depreciation on the trust’s bitcoin position ran **$6.074 billion** across the same period, so price drove the rest.

## Ether Spot ETFs and the Staking Fee Layer

- ETHE is now structured to stake, with an objective reflecting rewards from staking a portion of the Trust’s Ether.
- Staking introduced a second fee line, a sponsor staking fee worth **0.41 percentage points** on top of the 2.50% sponsor fee.
- Together, those produce net expenses of **2.91%** for the six months to June 30, 2026, against 2.50% in the comparable 2025 period.
- The trust also distributed shares in sponsor staking rewards, at **$21.150 million** over the half-year.
- iShares takes the opposite approach on cost, charging a flat sponsor fee of **0.25%** on its Ether product.
- ETHA reported shares outstanding of **359,440,000** and an indicative basket of **301.84 Ether**.
- Grayscale’s Ether trust ended the half-year with net assets of **$1.223 billion** against **$2.837 billion** a year earlier.

## Staking-Enabled Products and On-Chain Yield

- The REX-Osprey SOL and Staking ETF holds **57.52%** of net assets directly in Solana.
- Its second-largest position is a European wrapper rather than a token, at **41.62%** in the 21Shares Solana Staking ETP.
- The fund reported just **4 holdings** and a portfolio turnover rate of **13.28%**.
- Its total advisory fee for the period was **$47,261**.
- Expenses ran **0.75%** excluding tax expense, and **1.47%** including it, both annualised.
- Net investment income reached **2.06%** of average net assets, a yield line that a non-staking spot fund does not report at all.
- The fund disclosed Costs of a $10,000 investment at **$13** for the period, annualised at **1.47%**.
- The fund lists on the Cboe BZX Exchange, Inc., and its reporting period began on **July 2, 2025** (inception).

The tax line is the part most cost comparisons miss. A staking fund recognises expense at the fund level that a pure price-exposure product never incurs, which is why its headline fee and its all-in ratio describe two different things.

The structural difference between holding a token and holding a staked position is set out in the explainer on [liquid staking versus traditional staking](https://coinlaw.io/what-is-liquid-staking-vs-traditional-staking/).

## The Altcoin ETF Wave and the Generic Listing Standards

- The SEC replaced case-by-case review with eligibility criteria, requiring that the commodity may (1) trade on an ISG market; or (2) have futures traded for at least six months on a DCM that is an ISG market or with which an Exchange has a CSSA.
- The Commission applied the same test whether the Trust holds the commodity directly, or holds commodity-based assets.
- Its stated purpose was that the criteria help to ensure the availability of information with respect to the commodity.
- The Commission tied that information availability to what is necessary to detect and deter potential fraud and manipulation.
- The REX-Osprey SOL and Staking ETF was already reporting by July 31, 2025, with net assets of **$142,879,796**.
- Nasdaq secured its underlying Bitcoin listing approval earlier, in Securities Exchange Act Release No. 99306 (**January 10, 2024**).

### Are there Solana ETFs?

Yes. The REX-Osprey SOL and Staking ETF was reporting as a registered fund by July 31, 2025, listed on the Cboe BZX Exchange, with $142,879,796 in net assets and 57.52% of those assets held directly in Solana. Its structure differs from a plain spot product because it stakes part of the position and reports the resulting income.

## Options on Spot Crypto ETFs

- Nasdaq ISE received approval to list options on IBIT on **September 20, 2024**, roughly eight months after the fund itself began trading.
- The exchange set the initial ceiling conservatively, and IBIT currently has a position and exercise limit of **250,000 contracts** on the Exchange.
- Approval to raise that ceiling to **1,000,000 contracts** on the same side of the market followed on April 27, 2026.
- Eligibility for the 250,000 contract position limit requires that trading volume for the underlying security be at least **100 million shares** over the most recent six-month period.
- IBIT cleared that bar comfortably, with average daily volume of **61,803,035 shares** over the six months to February 11, 2026.
- Its market capitalisation on that date was **$52,661,063,818**.
- By comparison, the iShares China Large-Cap ETF traded **31,656,532 shares** a day on an AUM of **$6,594,337,253**.

> **Why it matters:** Nasdaq ISE recorded IBIT average daily volume of 61,803,035 shares in the six months to February 11, 2026, ahead of the iShares China Large-Cap ETF at 31,656,532 and the MSCI EAFE ETF at 17,215,037. Position limits track that liquidity, which is why the IBIT ceiling moved to 1,000,000 contracts.

## Non-US Venues

- Purpose Investments describes its Canadian product as the first physically settled Bitcoin ETF available to investors.
- The same fund page states that the ETF directly holds Bitcoin, providing investors with regulated access to the asset.
- Canadian tax wrappers apply, and the issuer states the fund is eligible for registered accounts such as TFSAs and RRSPs.
- The 21Shares Solana Staking ETP, a European wrapper, accounts for **41.62%** of one US fund’s assets, so the two regimes now nest rather than merely coexist.

Jurisdiction-level asset totals for Canada, Europe, Hong Kong and Brazil are not disclosed in any single primary filing, and no aggregate for those venues is asserted here. What the filings do establish is that the wrappers have become interoperable, since a US-registered fund can hold a European ETP as a core position.

## Conclusion

The spot crypto ETF category entered mid-2026 smaller and harder to compare than a year earlier. BlackRock’s Bitcoin fund closed June at **$43.386 billion** against **$67.401 billion** six months earlier, most of that move driven by a 32.51% fall in financial statement NAV rather than by flows, while Grayscale’s legacy vehicles carried the redemption pressure at fee rates of 1.50% and 2.91%.

The direction of travel now runs through structure rather than through launches. Generic listing standards turned approval into a checklist, staking turned a price-exposure wrapper into a yield-bearing one with its own tax line, and options limits scaled to match liquidity. Household participation across this and adjacent product sets is covered separately in the [retail investing data](https://coinlaw.io/retail-investing-statistics/).
