# Canary Lists First US Staked TRON ETF on Cboe

Canary Capital began trading the first U.S. staked TRON ETF on Sept. 9, listing the fund on Cboe under the ticker TRXS. Staking rewards accrue inside the fund’s net asset value rather than being paid out to shareholders.

## The Big Picture

- Canary Capital listed the Canary Staked TRX ETF on Cboe under the ticker TRXS on Sept. 9.
- The trust plans to stake substantially all of its TRX and keep 80% of the rewards generated.
- Staking income is added to daily net asset value, so holders see it in the share price.
- TRON moved $2.1 trillion in USDT transfers during the second quarter of 2026, according to Messari.
- Canary charges a 1.10% annual sponsor fee, payable monthly in either TRX or cash.

## Canary lists TRXS with staking built into the share price

The trust holds TRX directly and stakes it through TRON’s proof-of-stake system. Canary’s registration documents set the primary objective as tracking the value of the trust’s TRX holdings after expenses and liabilities. Earning additional tokens through staking is the secondary objective.

Canary filed the [Form S-1 registration statement for the trust](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2064768/000199937125004423/canary-s1_041825.htm) on April 18, 2025, then amended it to add the ticker, the exchange, custody arrangements and the staking structure. **BitGo Bank & Trust** custodies the TRX. U.S. Bank holds the cash, and **U.S. Bancorp Fund Services** provides administration, accounting and transfer-agent services.

Staking fees are capped at 20% of the rewards generated, leaving the trust with the remaining 80%. The annual sponsor fee runs **1.10%** of TRX holdings, accrues daily, and can be settled in TRX or cash.

## Stablecoin volume anchors the pitch

USDT settlement is the volume behind Canary’s pitch. Messari’s second-quarter report put TRON’s stablecoin market capitalization at **$89.2 billion**, with [USDT accounting for $87.9 billion](https://coinlaw.io/tether-q2-2026-profit-usdt-supply-gold-reserves/), or 98.5% of the total. Average daily USDT transfer volume rose 4.3% from the previous quarter to $22.8 billion.

Canary Capital CEO Steven McClurg tied the product to that settlement traffic.

“

As stablecoin adoption continues to grow globally, TRON has become a critical piece of the infrastructure powering digital asset payments and settlement.

[TRON](https://coinlaw.io/tron-statistics/) founder Justin Sun described the listing as recognition of the network as critical infrastructure for the global digital economy. TRX carried a market capitalization near $32.1 billion at listing, eighth among cryptocurrencies by market value.

## What TRXS changes for altcoin ETF structures?

The staking design separates TRXS from several pending altcoin funds. Updated filings for proposed BNB exchange-traded funds from **VanEck** and **Grayscale** kept staking outside their launch structures. Bitwise filed for 11 single-asset crypto ETFs on Dec. 31, 2025, including a TRX product that would hold up to 60% of assets directly and route the remainder through related exchange-traded products or derivatives.

Reward handling varies across the staked fund cohort too. Fidelity’s proposal for its ether fund would send [quarterly cash distributions to shareholders](https://coinlaw.io/fidelity-feth-ether-etf-staking-quarterly-payouts/). Canary folds retained rewards into daily NAV, which shows up as share-price movement with no cash payment.

The filings show the fee structure and the reward mechanics. They do not show demand. Three questions stay open: how much capital TRXS draws in its first weeks of trading, whether rewards net of the **1.10%** sponsor fee and the 20% staking fee cap exceed what direct staking returns, and whether the SEC clears competing TRX products on comparable terms. Anyone already staking TRX through a regulated custodian can weigh those two fee layers against their current arrangement before treating the fund as equivalent exposure.

## CoinLaw’s Takeaway

The listing routes TRON’s stablecoin volume into a brokerage account. Settlement volume at that scale needs validators, validators need staked TRX, and a fund that stakes its holdings captures part of what the network pays for its own security. That mechanism is what the 80% reward share represents.

The pricing sets a marker for the rest of the queue. A 1.10% sponsor fee sits well above spot bitcoin ETF levels, and the staking fee cap adds a second layer that spot-only funds do not carry. Custody banks are moving toward the same revenue line, with [BNY planning staked custody through a Galaxy partnership](https://coinlaw.io/bny-galaxy-crypto-staking-custody-platform/). That combined cost is now the number competing sponsors have to price against.
